Each year at this time I wonder where I will take my wife for our anniversary? This is our 13th year of marriage and each one of those years we have gone somewhere. This year I thought I would think outside of the box. I knew where I wanted us to go but the planning was a little more in-depth then past years.
Where we are going you can rent bikes, but I thought since we have our own bikes why rent them. But since I no longer have a truck how would I get the bikes to the location with us? I looked into buying a bike rack for the car but really didn’t want to spend the money for a test run. So asking around I found someone at work that said he would lend me his rack. There are nice people everywhere. He is a bike rider and was excited about my idea.
I must say my wife is a little nervous. This morning I wrote up my travel plans and what we may be doing today and tomorrow. I placed it on the table and told her she can see my plans if she would like? She told me that I have never let her down for our weekends away and she didn’t want to read it.
Well, I have to get away from the computer and get the bikes out and the rack on the car. We hope to be leaving our house soon to spend some needed time away alone. Keep watching the blog for updates on this crazy weekend trip.
Last nights dinner was a hit. Once you get your meat cooked. Use a fork and pull the meat apart, leaving all of the onions, peppers and garlic where it is. Don’t worry it all cooks down and your family won’t even know they are in the meat.
Put all of the meat into a bowl. When you are ready for you meal. Take a little meat out and toss it into a skillet over low heat. Pour in the A1 steak sauce and toss the meat around until warm. Sprinkle a little cheese of your choice over the meat, I covered the skillet until the cheese is melted.
Take the meat and melted goodness out of the skillet and place it onto a long bun. Once done it looks like a Cheese Steak.
I don’t feel that many families cook at home anymore. I think it is just to easy for everyone to stop on the way home for work and grab some kind of fast food. But with that we are making American kids fat and obese.
There is a show on TV called Diners, Dives and Drive Inn’s that I really enjoy. When I watch this show I look for meals that will be something different for our family. In a recent episode I watched as a cook made Chicken Pies. These are little pot pies.
So I took some time and roasted a chicken and made the Chicken Pies. They turned out great and my family loved them.
What I am telling everyone reading this blog that sometime and cook for your family.
When you travel try not to eat the normal fast food. We always try to find little out of the way places where we can enjoy local conversions and a good home cooked meal. Most of the time we find that the prices are close to what you would pay anywhere else.
This is one of those places. This is in Point Marion PA. Little hard to find but plug it into your GPS and you will be guided to the food of your dreams. Great food and better yet great owners. We almost felt like we were at home.
Here is a pictures of the outside of their building.
Well the Forth of July was a day to stay at home and have a cookout. My daughter invited her boy fried to the house to have a cookout with us. I first had to make sure he liked hot sausage. As you can see by the picture we had a fest!
We shall wait for the fireworks until tomorrow.
Here is the picture of our feat as it is cooking on the grill.
Whenever we visit Ohio we always pull out the GPS and search for Amish food. There are a few reason but the main one we do this for is “Home Made Noodles”. There is one thing you can be sure of when you go to an Amish dinner is that the food is home cooked and mostly home grown by local people. I am not sure but would have to guess that the meats are even locally raised.
I grabbed this quick pic to give you the name of the restaurant that we were in today.
