I just pulled out my Sony a6000 camera this morning because I have been thinking of taking pictures in a new way. I want to capture the World around me in black and white. Why is this a good idea? We lose touch with a photo when we introduce color into the picture. We need to capture a photograph of the subject, not the color around or on the subject. Look at a picture I shot this morning, side by side, one with color and one without.
Notice how you can see more detail in the guitar in the black and white photo than what your eyes see in the color photo. It is because the color pulls your eyes off the details and more into the colors you see.
We are planning a weekend getaway, and I will be shooting more pictures using the A6000 to show more of what I am talking about. We will look at more pictures and compare what you see. In the meantime, I challenge you to also shoot some pictures in black and white. It will also help you frame and compose your pictures more carefully.
