Ham Radio

My hobbies often turn into YouTube Channels. I have way too many hobbies. I am getting ready for retirement, so I want to have enough things to look forward to. My first love is, as many of you know, motorcycles. I have two motorcycles, which I enjoy riding as much as possible. I have a two-week motorcycle trip in the works for this summer. Here are pictures of my two bikes.

The second hobby I picked up was fishing. I walked away from fishing after my dad passed away. My dad was my fishing buddy for many years, and it was hard to go to a lake and look left and not see him sitting with me. Finally, I met a new friend who was like a brother to my fishing buddy and me. A few years ago, I found a small fishing boat that I could afford, and that works perfectly for what we love to fish for Crappy! This is a picture of my boat at Cross Creek Park.

I recently fell back in love with Ham Radio, also called Amature Radio. I have been a licensed Ham Operator for over 25 years since 1990. I somehow re-ignited this hobby while listening to an online ham radio. While listening, I heard something called POTA, which stands for Parks On The Air. As I sat and listened to Morse code, I started to recall the letters in my head. I love Morse Code, or CW, as it is known on the radio. I started by ordering a new base station and an antenna for the house. After talking to some of these POTA stations, I knew I had to become an activator. To be an activator, I needed another smaller radio, and I could take it to parks and set up and play the ham radio. I called CQ CQ CQ POTA, and other people tried to talk to me. I have found that the ham hobby is outpowering my other hobbies because I don’t need a nice day like riding motorcycles, and I don’t need great weather like getting my boat out fishing. I can talk from home or load up the car and work from a park just sitting in my car with the heat turned on. Pictured here are my home base station and my portable ham radios.

If you made it to the end of this post, you will agree I have too many hobbies. For some strange reason, I want to get back into writing and share my adventures using this blog. Stay tuned for more to come soon. Thanks for reading.
